Frequently Asked Questions
What are Send Orbs?
Send Orbs are an acupressure tool designed specifically for climbers, by climbers. You roll or press them against your hands, fingers, and forearms to stimulate blood flow, release muscle tension, and help prevent strain and injury that can come with climbing.
How big are they?
Send Orbs are roughly 35mm in diameter - perfectly sized to toss in your gym bag, backpack, chalk bag, purse, or pretty much and other bag.
Are they durable?
Yes! They are designed to take a beating. Drop them on cement or bounce them off your local boulder and they'll bounce right back (figuratively of course, they won't actually bounce much). They're designed to be used and remain effective for years.
How do I use them?
Place an Orb against a sore or tense area — your palm, the your fingers, or your forearm — and roll it with light to moderate pressure for 30–60 seconds, or until you feel relief. You'll notice the area will start to flush with fresh, oxygenated blood, resulting in your skin becoming red, which is a good sign. Use them before climbing to warm up, between attempts to flush lactic acid, or after sessions to speed recovery.
When should I use them — before, during, or after climbing?
All three. Before climbing, they help warm up the hands and increase circulation. Between routes or boulder problems, they help clear pump faster and reduce feelings of strain. After sessions, they accelerate recovery so you're always ready for your next climb.
Are they just for hand and finger injuries?
Because climbing places significant strain on the fingers, hands, and forearms, Send Orbs are designed to be used on these areas. However, you can use them anywhere you have muscle tension, want to improve circulation, or want to achieve a feeling of relaxation.
How are Send Orbs different from a regular massage ball?
Send Orbs were designed specifically for climbers, with a size and and a spiky texture that are optimized for the small muscles and tendons of the hands and fingers. A standard lacrosse ball or foam roller is too large for the precision relief and blood flow stimulation your fingers and forearms need.
Is this really acupressure?
Well, sort of - Send Orbs are actually closer to mechanotherapy or myofascial release, which uses pressure and a rolling motion to stimulate blood flow and release tension in muscles and connective tissues. Technically, "acupressure" is an ancient Chinese practice that involves applying sustained pressure to specific meridian points, or pressure points (which Send Orbs absolutely could be used for). However, the modern definition of acupressure includes several different methods of healing, including technical acupressure, acupressure mats, pillows, straps, etc., and of course, Send Orbs. We use the term acupressure because it's become a commonly-accepted term for this type of physiotherapy (and most people have never heard of mechanotherapy!).
Do they actually work?
Absolutely - and even better than you might think. Increased blood flow from acupressure and mechanical stimulation is well-supported by sports science. Many climbers notice reduced pump, faster recovery between attempts, and less hand fatigue after using Send Orbs. Long-term
Will they help if I already have a finger or pulley injury?
Send Orbs can help with recovery from minor strain by promoting circulation to the injured area, but you should consult a physical therapist or sports medicine doctor before using them on an active injury. They're intended to be used as a preventative tool rather than a treatment.
What are they made of?
Send Orbs are manufactured with a combination of premium-quality metal and ABS plastic to ensure effectiveness and long-lasting durability.
How many come in a pack?
Send Orbs come in a pack of two, and they're slightly magnetized to help them tick together and keep them from getting lost.
